Hello lovely readers,
Last week my sister and I, were invited to the Under Armour Event in beautiful snowy, sunny (but extremely cold) St. Moritz, where Lindsey Vonn inspired us with her fighting spirit when talking about her new book „Strong is the new beautiful“. I was looking forward to this event for a long time since I really like the brand Under Armour (I first learned about it during my year in the US). The brand itself stands for dedication (I WILL!), power, strength, and stamina.
Almost frozen we arrived at the hotel, where Lindsay would have her press conference and later talk to us about her book. I forgot to bring proper warm winter clothes, so when we arrived, I happily received an Under Armour Hoodie, a T-Shirt and a…. BEANIE (seriously, who’s going to the mountains without a beanie? I learned my lesson, believe me!)
We waited outside, curious how Lindsey would arrive.. Then someone shouted: „She is coming with a Quad!“ What an appearance! With her blond hair and her trained body she looked incredible gorgeous! We couldn’t wait to finally be in the same room with her, listening to her and asking our questions.
What I really found inspiring about the interview then, was her open and down-to-earth way in which she talked about success, failure, motivation and her daily life as a ski superstar. Of course, I was curious to know everything about her diet but I was also interested in her lifestyle and especially in her attitude toward a healthy body image.
When Lindsey was talking, I had so many thought in my head, like what is she doing on a „normal“ day, and how many times does she has to train? Where does she get the motivation to never give up even after her dreadful arm fracture? How many hours of sleep does an athlete need? (she aims for 10 hours of sleep, and she loves naps! ;))
Lindsey explained with passion in her eyes, that pressure makes her stronger and that even in tough times, she always tries to see the positive. Much of what she said reminded me of myself and my passion for blogging and everything that evolves around it. Blogging during the last five years has basically been the only constant in my life. I think when you love what you do, you don’t get up one day and decide that you want to be a blogger from now one. I guess this all happens more organically and you grow with your blog. You can drive your blog in any direction you want to, experiment, analyze, change, adjust, fail, succeed and then again from the beginning the same way or another.
I think it isn’t very different from professional ski sport.
With a lot of inspirational thoughts in our heads, we finally could try some of the dishes from Lindsey’s new book. I loved the Quinoa Salad and I also enjoyed the flavor combination of the avocado toast with peanut butter. Though, I would have substituted the egg with a scrambled tofu mash. 🙂
After the press conference, there was still one big highlight waiting for us! We could have a 1:1 talk with Lindsey! Brave Lindsey was already answering questions the whole afternoon, so I tried to keep it short. I asked her about her nutrition, told her that I really like her book AND I told her about how to make my vegan chocolate mousse with chickpea liquid.
HOW COOL IS THAT?
At the end of this wonderful day, I felt really grateful to get the chance to see behind the life of a sports star like Lindsey Vonn. She is not only a star on the slope but a warm-hearted very kind person to talk to in real life.
Thank you Lindsey Vonn and Under Armour for this epic day.
XOXO
